Approximately 50 BCCS chorus members will participate in Great Day of Singing 2016, held at Grace Congregational Church, 8 Court Street in Rutland, Vermont, on Saturday, April 9, 2016.
Orchestrated by the Vermont American Choral Directors Association, the annual event includes vocal tips for choristers; demonstrations by local / regional choirs and choral groups; and workshops for singers, conductors and music directors.
Headlining the day will be Cailin Marcel Manson, founding director and conductor of the Germantown Concert Chorus and Germantown Institute for the Choral Arts. Mr. Manson has worked with ensembles both nationally and internationally. He is presently the Director of Music at the Putney School, and, since 2014, Music Director of the Bennington County Choral Society. The baritone and conductor has toured major concert venues throughout the United States, Europe and Asia with many organizations as a performer and master teacher. Mr. Manson has held positions as artistic director and conductor of the Montgomery County Youth Orchestra, music director of the Vorarlberger Musikfest, music director and conductor laureate of the Chamber Symphony of Atlantic City, chairman of vocal studies at the Hazleton Conservatory for the Performing Arts, and as a member of the voice faculty of both the Napoli School of Music and Dance and the Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming Seminary. He is a member of the National Association of Negro Musicians and the Conductors Guild. A graduate of the Esther Boyer College of Music of Temple University, Mr. Manson also received a Magister in orchestral conducting and opera from the Universitat Mozarteum Salzburg in Austria.
Workshops, demonstrations and performances are free and open to the public. All teens and adults who enjoy listening to, conducting or singing choral music are invited to attend — participants of all skill levels are welcome. Hours are 9:30 AM to approximately 3:00 PM. Lunch may be purchased on site, at several nearby restaurants or bring your own. For those who wish, contributions are welcome at the door.
