Job Description: Collaborative Pianist

 

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Artistic Director, accompany BCCS during choral rehearsals and concerts, assist in the leading of sectional rehearsals if necessary, and the coaching of individuals and small ensembles.

REHEARSALS:

Monday evenings 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm with one Saturday morning rehearsal each season

 

REMUNERATION:

1-year contracted position (paid monthly) Sept 2023 – May 2024. Pay is $35 - $45 per hour depending on education and experience

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Come prepared to every rehearsal with specific parts mastered (at the assignment of the director), with a mastery of the whole program early on in the rehearsal process

• Lead sectional rehearsals by playing parts, identifying singer’s mistakes and problem areas, correcting mistakes and providing the right notes and rhythms

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Undergraduate degree in piano, conducting, music education, and/or comparable experience. Experience working with both singers and instrumentalists preferred

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

• Advanced piano skills

• Advanced music theory

• Vocal techniques

• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

 

Ability to:

• Understand and follow oral and written directions

• Remain focused and engaged during rehearsals

• Work cooperatively with others

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

• Play piano at an advanced level and sight read complex musical scores

• Accompany choir, soloists and small ensembles as necessary

• Assist singers in learning vocal music interpretation by strong keyboard musicianship
